One of the most common questions for anyone who owns an RV or camper is how to protect the camper from theft. Protecting your camper from thieves and speculators is a reality that no camper or RV owner should lose sight of.
Fortunately, there's a lot you can do to reduce your chances of being targeted by thieves and make it harder for them to try.
Here I've listed a number of safety ideas for you to consider.
Key
Don't leave your keys in the camper van without you, even for a moment. This includes de-icing your drive, buying fuel, or going into the store. If your van is stolen with keys inside, your insurance company may not pay.
Keep your car keys out of sight and away from unlocked doors or open Windows, which are the most vulnerable places for thieves to break into.
Immobiliser or Alarm
The average camper is equipped with a certified built-in alarm and alarm. You should check your manual for accurate specifications.
However, not all lorries have alarms, and lorries before 1998 May not have anti-theft devices.
If your van does not have alarms or burglar alarms, it may be worth considering retrofitting these. In addition to improving the safety and peace of mind of your camper, this can also reduce your insurance premiums.
Tips: Check your vehicle's manual to learn how to temporarily disable motion sensors. This allows you to lock your van and sound an alarm when you sleep at night, and when you transport it on a ferry or train.
